The Art of Gratitude

In Healthy lifestyle of Simon (November 22, 2010 3:33 pm)

I read a great article the other day about the “art of gratitude” and how most people never realise how much they have to be grateful for. Instead, they move through life moaning about all of the things that make them unhappy…..
The author Dan Kennedy talks about how most of us in the UK are among the richest in the world (when measured using purely financial parameters)
One of our “bad days” would probably be taken quite quickly by any of those below us in the worldwide wealth list and whats more they would probably consider it a good day in comparison with their own daily living.
Think for a moment about the things that get you whining – the weather, your boss, job, partner, children, traffic jams etc - most of which you cant do anything about (well maybe you could pack your job in then you woudlnt have to whinge about your boss or work…but then you’d have no job and no income so whats worse!!) and so you are just wasting energy needlessly!

Now, take a moment to think about all of the parts of your life which you should be grateful for and which ought to occupy some of the time you spend moaning. I’ll leave you to do that but will give you some ideas with my own list , in no particular order of importance but remembering that she may read this;

A loving and supportive partner
Robust health
The opportunity to be able to work every day
Having fun at work every day
Having the perfect job
Great friends
A healthy family
The ability to support charities rather than rely on them
Being able to workout and choose when and where to workout
Having a home to go to every night

I’m sure that given a few more minutes I could think of a couple dozen more but hopefully you get the picture. We all have a lot more to be grateful for than to whine about.
So here’s my challenge to you for the next week. Everytime you find something to complain about, replace that thought with one of something to be grateful for and see if it makes your life a happier place.

If you see someone without a smile…give ‘em yours

Stay healthy & have fun
